The perfect gift for anyone born during May, the Green Emerald suits most skin and hair colours but does go particularly well with cool skin tones and red hair. Emeralds were a favourite of Cleopatra.

Characteristics

Emerald is one of the most highly prized of all gems, vivid green in colour, the most prized examples are grass green.

Origins

The name Emerald originates from the Greek word 'smaragdos' meaning green stone. Under magnification crystals trapped inside the Emerald can be seen to mimic foliage patterns. Emeralds are a member of the Beryl family of minerals.

Symbolism & Healing Powers

Emerald is said to symbolise fidelity, goodness and love and legend has it that wearing them cures poor eyesight, infertility and low IQ and enables the wearer to predict the future.

Where It’s Found

Zambia, Zimbabwe, Brazil and Colombia.

The worlds largest Emerald was found in Colombia in 1969, it weighed a massive 7,052 carats.

Care 

1. Whenever possible put your Emerald jewellery on after applying any lotions, perfumes or sprays and remove when doing the dishes or other tough jobs such as gardening. 

2. Clean your Emerald jewellery using mild soap and warm water, scrub very gently with a soft toothbrush, rinse in warm water and dry immediately using a soft cloth.
